Sonnax clutch apply piston kits drastically reduce the likelihood of clutch plate distortion. Due to OE design shortcomings, flexing and bowing of the backing plate is common in some GM transmissions, often causing them to suffer failure of the 4-5-6 clutch assembly. These kits increase the piston-to-plate apply ring surface area to strengthen and reinforce the assembly, along with a more rigid backing plate design that outperforms OE and aftermarket components.
